The Day the Earth Stood Still

between the gurgles, random snores, distant drips, shadows of subversive webs,

cricket chirps, grains of soil heaved—cicadas breaking free—dissonant chimes,

owls’ hollowed cries, a single thought persists:

how curious we must seem to those who soar,

bloated by self, yet stunted—

a furious, cacophonous coda,

unable to resolve
