Not with chisel, aimed, precise,

but witless claw,

and brawny chain,

swung low, swung high,

each strike is good,

but more are better

set on gouging pits

and splintered grooves

in hard-wrought grain and knot

until the toughest stuff is

nothing more than

slivers, pulp, and kindling,

splinter sharp,

and ready to ignite.
